Updated Policy on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

posted Jan 18, 2016, 12:49 PM by Kevin Sloan
To comply with new guidance and rules from the Federal Aviation Administration in the United States, we have implemented the following rules, which are reflected in Rover Question 8 on the Q&A page:

All teams with an airborne vehicle over 0.55lb with all payload onboard must have at least one pilot register with the FAA at https://www.faa.gov/uas/registration/. Registration only takes 5 minutes and just consists of providing your name and address in exchange for a registration number. Registration is currently only possible for US persons, but should be available to international teams prior to the competition. Teams with an airborne vehicle should send us a copy of their registration by April 22, 2016 as per rule 1.b.ii.  At MDRS the vehicle must be marked with the registration number to compete.
